Deductible
and Co-Insurance - Available options
Temporary Medical
insurance plans have deductible and co-insurance options to
choose from. This allows you to choose a plan that best
fits your budget. Below is an example how these two
options work.
|
| Temporary Medical Insurance Deductibles
and Co-Insurance Explained |
Plan
Deductible
- The amount of money paid (during the term of insurance) by
the insured for medical care expenses before an insurance
policy starts paying.
Co-Insurance Option - The amount the insured is required to pay
for medical care in a plan after the deductible has been
met. Coinsurance rate is usually expressed as a percentage. For
example, the insurance company may pay 80% of the covered claim,
and the insured pays the remaining 20%. This would be called
80/20.
Typical Example - If you purchased a plan with a $250 deductible
with a co-insurance option of 80/20 to $5,000 - First you would
pay your $250 deductible and then 20% of the next $5,000 in
medical expenses. Your total out-of-pocket expense would be
$1,250. The insurance company would then pay 100% to the policy
coverage limits. |
